Government Allocates Rs9 Billion to Boost Electric Vehicle Adoption

Pakistan Targets 2.2 Million Electric Vehicles on Roads by 2030

Pakistan is set to witness rapid growth in electric mobility, with the number of electric vehicles (EVs) on its roads expected to reach 2.2 million by 2030, according to a briefing presented to the Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production. The growth is expected to be driven by the government’s EV policy, incentives, and expanding local manufacturing.

The committee was informed that Pakistan has already produced more than 12,800 electric vehicles and around 160,000 electric motorcycles, highlighting the steady progress of the domestic EV industry. To further encourage adoption, the government has allocated Rs9 billion in subsidies for electric two- and three-wheelers, including an Rs80,000 subsidy for eligible electric motorcycle buyers.

Officials said the initiative aims to make electric mobility more affordable, reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, cut carbon emissions, and support Pakistan’s long-term environmental and energy objectives.
