BYD Regains Global EV Lead Despite Drop in Quarterly Deliveries
Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has overtaken Tesla to become the world’s largest manufacturer of battery-powered vehicles, driven by strong overseas demand despite an 8.2% year-on-year decline in its second-quarter deliveries. BYD delivered 557,090 vehicles during the April-June period, surpassing Tesla’s 480,126 deliveries.
Industry analysts say BYD’s growing popularity in international markets, particularly in Western Europe and Southeast Asia, has helped the company gain an edge over Tesla. Unlike Tesla, which produces only battery electric vehicles (BEVs), BYD manufactures both battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, expanding its appeal across global markets.
The latest sales figures highlight China’s growing influence in the global electric vehicle industry as demand for clean energy transportation continues to rise. Analysts believe BYD’s expanding international presence is strengthening its position as a leading player in the worldwide EV market.
