EV Manufacturers Welcome Continuation of Tax Relief and PAVE Fast-Track Scheme

Representatives of the Pakistan Electric Two and Three Wheelers Manufacturers and Assemblers Association (PETMAA), led by Chairman Dr. Muhammad Amjad, met with Federal Minister for Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan to discuss the challenges facing the electric vehicle industry, government policies, and future growth plans.

The delegation emphasized the importance of continuing the Fifth Schedule, which provides original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with a 1% tax concession. Industry representatives said uncertainty over the policy during the past year had affected investment, local manufacturing, and the overall development of Pakistan’s EV sector.

During the meeting, the minister assured the industry of the government’s full support and announced that the 1% tax regime for electric vehicles would remain in place from July 2026 to June 2027. He also stated that the government had opposed proposals to impose an 18% sales tax on the EV sector.

Haroon Akhtar Khan also highlighted improvements to the PAVE scheme, under which subsidies for electric motorcycles will now be paid directly to manufacturers, allowing consumers to receive vehicles more quickly. Industry representatives welcomed the government’s support, describing the decision as a major boost for investment, local manufacturing, and the growth of environmentally friendly transportation in Pakistan.
