This new model joins BYD’s expanding UK portfolio, which already features the Sealion 5 DM-i, Seal U DM-i, and Seal 6 DM-i—all designed for long-distance travel. A tougher, off-road-ready BYD Shark 6 equipped with DMO technology is also scheduled for release in 2026.
At the core of BYD’s DM-i system is the 1.5-litre Xiaoyun petrol engine, boasting 43% thermal efficiency. Unlike conventional hybrids, the engine primarily serves as a generator, allowing the electric motor to handle most of the driving—especially in urban settings. The system intelligently shifts between pure EV, series hybrid, and parallel hybrid modes, balancing efficiency with performance.
