Suzuki Enters Japan’s Mini EV Market with e SKY, Targeting BYD Competition
Suzuki Motor Corp will launch its new ultracompact electric vehicle, the e SKY, in Japan on November 16, aiming to attract buyers with affordable pricing amid growing competition from BYD and domestic automakers.
The e SKY offers a driving range of approximately 310 kilometres on a single charge. After a government subsidy of 568,000 yen, prices start at 1.55 million yen. Suzuki has set a monthly sales target of 1,000 units.
Suzuki President Toshihiro Suzuki said the vehicle reflects the company’s experience in developing compact cars. The launch marks Suzuki’s long-awaited entry into Japan’s mini electric vehicle market.
The company will compete with models such as BYD’s Racco, Nissan’s Sakura and Honda’s N-ONE e:, as automakers increasingly target consumers seeking affordable electric mobility.
