Toyota Indonesia Introduces New Model Tuned for Passenger Loads

Toyota Indonesia Launches Veloz Hybrid: Electrifying the MPV Segment with DNGA Technology

Toyota Indonesia has made a significant stride in its electrification strategy, surprising the region with the launch of the Veloz Hybrid. This new model, featuring an all-new powertrain retrofitted into its existing body and chassis, directly follows the global debut of the Ativ HEV. As a Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) vehicle, the Veloz Hybrid shares the efficient electrified powertrain found in the Ativ HEV and Yaris Cross HEV. It integrates a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine (2NR-VEX), an electric motor, and a lithium-ion battery, delivering a total system output of 111 horsepower via a CVT. Toyota Indonesia specifically tuned this hybrid system for MPV applications, ensuring optimal performance even with a full load of up to seven passengers.

Toyota Indonesia Launches Veloz Hybrid: Electrifying the MPV Segment with DNGA Technology

The Veloz Hybrid is currently available for pre-order in Indonesia, with reports from Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week 2025 indicating it will be offered in four variants, including a top-tier model equipped with Toyota Safety Sense. Notably, this advanced hybrid system will not extend to its more affordable sibling, the Avanza. Crucially for regional markets like the Philippines, the Veloz Hybrid will be produced in Indonesia, the same source for Toyota Motor Philippines’ (TMP) Avanza and Veloz models. This local production strongly suggests that if TMP decides to introduce the Veloz Hybrid, its specifications will likely mirror those available in Indonesia, presenting a prime opportunity for Toyota to potentially dominate the MPV segment ahead of competitors like Mitsubishi Motors Philippines and its anticipated Xpander HEV.

This launch underscores Toyota’s commitment to electrifying its entire lineup, particularly its DNGA-based models for developing markets. The Veloz Hybrid not only enhances Toyota’s green vehicle offerings but also positions Indonesia as a key manufacturing hub for hybrid MPVs in the region. With its blend of established design, efficient hybrid technology, and potential for broader market availability, the Veloz Hybrid is set to be a significant player in sustainable urban mobility and a strategic move for Toyota in the competitive Southeast Asian automotive landscape.
